For The Fifth Consecutive Year, Einhorn Harris Sponsors Valley View Mock Trial TeamNovember 13, 2014
Denville, NJ – On Monday, November 10, 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, the Denville based law firm of Einhorn, Harris, Ascher, Barbarito & Frost, PC presented a check to Valley View Middle School to sponsor and mentor their Mock Trial Team.
Each year, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation presents “Law Adventure”, a free educational mock trial activity open to schools in New Jersey. The program consists of a contest and educational component specifically designed for 7th and 8th grade students. The goal is to promote student’s understanding of the legal justice systems. The New Jersey State Bar Foundation provides two topics, usually one civil and one criminal, and asks the students to create and write two original mock trial cases which they will then “argue”. This year, the topics are:
- School and/or community based sports team liabilities, and
- Fourth Amendment (the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures) Rights.
Since 2009, when Einhorn Harris began sponsoring Valley View Middle School’s Mock Trial Club, Timothy J. Ford, Esq., Counsel with the firm, has served as the mentor to the students. Each year, Mr. Ford has worked with the facility advisor for the Mock Trial Club, Mark Hoffman. Each year, Mr. Ford excitedly begins the program with both new participants and students who were involved the year before. When asked about being involved once again, he said: ““For the past four years, I have the opportunity to see the students use their creativity in conjunction with critical thinking skills to develop interesting cases and advocate factual and legal positions.”
Unlike many schools who participate in The New Jersey Bar Foundation’s Program, Valley View’s Mock Trial Team is an after school club supported, but not sponsored, by the school system. Many of the other schools in New Jersey have a mock trial class which is included in the curriculum. For the past 5 years, Einhorn Harris has supported the program through its sponsorship and commitment to mentoring the students.
Theodore E.B. Einhorn, Esq. , founding member of the firm, said: “We have been in this area for more than 50 years. The town has given so much to us, we are just happy to be able to give back to them in a small way.”
