Experienced New Jersey Criminal Lawyers

The Criminal Law Attorneys at Einhorn Harris Ascher Barbarito & Frost, P.C., consist of Michael R. Ascher, a former New Jersey Deputy Attorney General and assistant County Prosecutor who has been practicing criminal law for over thirty years, and Matheu D. Nunn, a former assistant County Prosecutor and current Municipal Prosecutor who investigated and prosecuted Major Crimes cases (murders and attempted murders), white collar cases (acts of Official Misconduct), and briefed and argued appeals on behalf of the State of New Jersey before New Jersey’s Appellate Division and Supreme Court.

As former State Prosecutors, Michael and Matheu appeared in the Superior Court before various judges on a regular basis. They are in the unique position of having investigated and prepared cases for prosecution by the State. As defense attorneys, the behind-the-scenes insight gained as prosecutors, allow Michael and Matheu to identify weaknesses in all aspects of the State’s cases from the initial investigation to the grand jury process, and, ultimately, in the State’s presentation at trial. By being able to identify those weaknesses, Michael and Matheu have been able to resolve serious criminal charges for many clients without the need for trial and without jail time. If, however, the case cannot be resolved, Michael and Matheu will present a rigorous trial defense, including pre-trial motions, an independent investigation, and the use of expert witnesses.

In addition to representing clients charged with serious violations of New Jersey’s Criminal Code, Michael and Matheu also have extensive experience with municipal court matters. Michael has represented innumerable clients charged with crimes and driving offenses (including DWI/DUI) in Municipal Court. While an Assistant Prosecutor, Matheu was responsible for administration of all of the Municipal Appeals filed in Morris County. Their collective experiences with New Jersey Municipal Courts enable the pair to address any type of charges filed in a municipal court.
