On Thursday, November 15th, Gary R. Botwinick, Esq., Chair of the Trusts & Estates/Tax Practice of Einhorn, Barbarito, Frost & Botwinick, PC, presented a seminar: “Treasure, Not Taxes-How to Protect your Assets before the Big Changes of 2013”, for a group of client investors invited to attend by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, LLC.  The event took place at the Black Horse Tavern in Mendham, New Jersey.

The presentation focused on how the tax laws, which are scheduled to change on January 1, 2013, could have an enormous impact on a person’s estate.  Mr. Botwinick also provides attendees with some techniques to protect their assets in 2012, which may not be available in 2013.  Mr. Botwinick, Esq., has frequently spoken on this subject.  Many of the attendees where interested in learning how to protect their estates from new tax laws which would burden the beneficiaries with significantly higher estate taxes after their deaths.    Included in the discussion was how different methods of gifting of assets could reduce estate taxes.   However, as Mr. Botwinick made clear, “ . . . many of these techniques may not be available after the tax law changes take effect in 2013.”
