For the third straight year, Einhorn, Barbarito, Frost & Botwinick, PC announced their firm’s sponsorship and mentorship of the Valley View Middle School’s Mock Trial team.   At a Township of Denville Board of Education meeting on October 22, 2012, Mr. Theodore E.B. Einhorn, Esq., founding member of the firm, presented the Denville Superintendent of Schools, Catherine Mozak, with a check to subsidize the program.  As a result of the firm’s sponsorship, those students who participate in Mock Trial only are not required to pay the student extra curricular fee.

The Valley View Mock Trial Club is open to 7th and 8th grade students and conducts its activities as part of New Jersey State Bar Foundation Law Adventure for 7th and 8th grade students.  The New Jersey State Bar Foundation provides the format and rules for the students to create original mock trial cases.  From February through May, students transform written cases into trials. They create characters of plaintiff, defendant and supporting witnesses and write their respective statements.  Each year, two themes are chosen by the Bar Foundation.  This year, the two themes chosen were Social Media and New Jersey Motor Vehicle Law.

Working with Valley View Social Studies’ teacher and Mock Trial Club coach, Mark Hoffman, is just one more example of Einhorn Barbarito’ dedication to community service.   Timothy J. Ford, Esq., an associate at the firm in the Closely Held Business Practice, once again, has agreed to volunteer his time this year to mentor the students as they prepare the cases for submission to the Bar Foundation.  Should they be chosen, the Valley View students would have the opportunity to present their “case” in May, 2012 and receive verdicts from a jury of their student peers statewide.

Mr. Ford stated that this was one of the activities he truly enjoys doing each year.  “For the past three years, I have the opportunity to see the students start from scratch and develop into really wonderful advocates by the time the program is completed for the year.”

Mr. Ford continued:  “I have the chance to see how the students learn to cooperate with one another, hone presentation abilities, persuasion and critical thinking skills and how to think on their feet.  The skills that they learn during this process will help them in every area of their lives and any profession they choose in the future.”
