Mr. Snyder was sworn in by the Honorable David H. Ironson, former partner at the firm. This honor continues the long-standing tradition of service at the firm of Einhorn Harris, with attorneys Patricia Barbarito, Ivette Alvarez, and Bonnie Frost, all serving as past officers. Einhorn Harris is the only New Jersey law firm with the distinction of having four lawyers elected by the membership.
Officers of the Family Law Section are sworn to uphold the bylaws and carry out the obligations imposed by the code of professional responsibility—maintaining the highest standard of service in behalf of children and families in need. Mr. Snyder will serve for a term of one year.
Thomas J. Snyder devotes his practice exclusively to family law matters. As a member of the New Jersey State Bar, he has contributed to the Association’s Amicus Curie brief to the Supreme Court of New Jersey submitted in the matter of Lewis v. Harris, 185 N.J. 415, (2006), a case of first impression in the State of New Jersey addressing the issue of same sex couples’ right to a legally recognized marriage. He is the recipient of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Distinguished Legislation Award for 2006 in recognition of his contributions to advancing the interests of the Association in regard to open adoption legislation and legislation providing for the dissolution of marriage based on irreconcilable differences. He has litigated the following reported cases: Anyanwu v. Anyanwu, 339 N.J. Super. 278 (App. Div. 2001), an international custody case involving the return of a child from Nigeria to New Jersey; and Steneken v. Steneken, 183 N.J. 290, a complex financial case dealing with the interrelationship between spousal support and the equitable distribution of a closely held corporation.
A graduate of Seton Hall School of Law, Mr. Snyder has been licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey and in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey since 1992. He served as judicial law clerk for the Honorable Peter B. Cooper, Superior Court of New Jersey, Essex County, New Jersey.
He has lectured on family law matters on behalf of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). He is also a member of the Morris County and Union County Bar Associations. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
