Dynamic, dedicated and approachable, Mark Wechsler is a driving force in New Jersey matrimonial law. Among his many accomplishments over the past 20 years is his having litigated one of the state’s lead cases on the complex issue of international jurisdiction in child custody disputes. He prides himself on the strength of his client relationships, ethical standards and formidable negotiation and trial skills. Mr. Wechsler’s proven strategy for success is to become steeped in the nuances of his clients’ situations, interests and motivations; to thoroughly and objectively analyze every case to determine the best strategies; then to do all it takes to achieve his clients’ goals, whether that means settling or litigating. A sought-after attorney, Mr. Wechsler is renowned for his courtroom strategy and trial skills.
Mr. Wechsler took an indirect route to joining the law profession, earning a graduate degree in criminal justice and criminology before taking a position with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, and subsequently with the Federal Court System. His criminal justice work gave him experience and insight into the legal system, which spurred him to earn a law degree. He spent several years practicing both general and family law, and then decided to dedicate himself to the latter. Mr. Wechsler possesses both a determination to win and a natural empathy for his clients. This combination makes him a highly effective matrimonial attorney, due to the high-stakes and intensely personal nature of each case. Mr. Wechsler believes in giving back and provides pro bono services to The Women’s Center at the County College of Morris and is involved in the New Jersey Bar Association’s community service activities.
