New Jersey Full Service Law Firm
A Legacy of Leadership
Over 45 years of legal and litigation experience and dedication to community involvement paints a picture of leadership for this New Jersey firm. Founded in 1961 by two law school classmates, the firm has grown to its present size and substantial reputation, 24 attorneys strong. The original law firm of Stein and Einhorn concentrated their practice in Criminal Law, Negligence and Civil Litigation. The firm’s philosophy of community involvement and service is a well-known and long-standing commitment. In 1975, the firm gained national fame when they represented St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville in the Karen Ann Quinlan “right to die” case, and in 2008, they successfully represented former Governor James McGreevey in the trial of his custody and divorce case. Despite the recent economic downturn, the organization has grown to include 24 attorneys who practice in a host of areas, including Family Law, Criminal Law, Personal Injury, Wills, Trusts & Estates, Business and Employment Law, and Real Estate and Zoning. There are currently ten Partners in the firm, (Theodore E.B. Einhorn, Peter T. Harris, Michael R. Ascher, Patricia M. Barbarito, Bonnie C. Frost, Gary R, Botwinick, Stephen P. Haller, Mark Wechsler, Thomas J. Snyder, and Andrew S. Berns), seven Counsel and seven Associates, many of whom also serve as leaders in state and national Bar Associations. They also teach, lecture and publish. With a dedication to the highest standard of integrity and excellence, these experienced attorneys provide professional legal assistance throughout the stages of their clients’ lives. For business owners, this full-service firm’s Closely Held Business Group provides legal support for all phases of business growth, expansion and succession.

Our law firm consists of a team of accomplished New Jersey attorneys who come from diverse backgrounds and experience. For example, Mr. Einhorn, our founding partner, has dealt with real estate, re-zoning, site plans, subdivision and variance approvals including high-rise office buildings. Our Family and Matrimonial Law Department is one of the most prestigious in the state. Four of our attorneys, Patricia Barbarito, Bonnie Frost, Mark Wechsler and Jennifer Fortunato are certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Matrimonial Law Attorneys. Our criminal defense lawyer, Michael Ascher, worked as a former assistant prosecutor and as a deputy attorney general before joining our law firm. Our Trusts/Estates/Taxation Department Chair, Gary Botwinick, began his career in the IRS Manhattan District Counsel Office, where he tried civil cases before the United States Tax Court. In 2006, Mr. Botwinick was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a national peer-nominated organization of attorneys who have demonstrated the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience as trust and estate counselors. Our Employment Law and Personal Injury attorneys have recently announced a series of substantial settlements for clients who are victims of serious accidents, and they all consistently go “above and beyond” for their clients. Andrew Berns, Chair of the firm's Commercial Litigation practice and the Personal Injury Department, has extensive experience in litigating complex commercial matters and personal injury cases and has tried cases in the United States Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey, Superior Court of New Jersey, Law and Chancery Divisions and the New Jersey Administrative Law Courts.
This kind of varied and depth of experience gives our clients the benefit of what our attorneys have learned in each practice area, including family law, divorce, business law, criminal defense, personal injury, employment law, and wills, trusts, estates and taxation.
